European Commissions President will Come to Slovakia on Thursday

BRATISLAVA, January 16, (SITA)--Romano Prodi, the European Commissions President and Gunther Verheugen, Commissioner for Enlargement will arrive to Slovakia on Thursday. Prodi and Verheugen are touring those candidate countries for membership in the European Union that received an invitation for accession talks at the EU summit in Helsinki in December.

They will be holding talks with the most senior state representatives of the Slovak Republic about European Union enlargement and matters associated with the integration of Slovakia. Their itinerary includes talks with President Rudolf Schuster, Prime Minister Mikulas Dzurinda, and Speaker of Parliament Jozef Migas. Romano Prodi will also address the plenum of the Slovak Parliament. The European Commission has recognized progress Slovakia has achieved last year. This visit is seen as an encouragement for the adoption of further necessary decisions, above all associated with continuing economic reform and further development of the necessary administrative capacity to make the necessary institutional changes. .
